What do you think of when you hear the term “affordable housing?” Many think of the “government projects.” However, in American Dream Come True, Tony Bertoldi presents a different view that is much needed. He works with a company that majors in Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) housing. Since this field can be rather confusing, Tony spends some time explaining the misconceptions concerning affordable housing. Homelessness and the people who simply cannot afford to buy a house are a rapidly growing section of the world’s population. Over a third of the US population rent simply because they have been priced out of the homeownership market. LIHTC housing is not identifiable by its look. After thoroughly explaining the many benefits of LIHTC, Tony challenges the reader to become involved in advocating for better housing. For those who have influence with investors, he encourages sharing the varied benefits that supporting affordable housing has. This book presents a viable solution to one of society’s banes.
Tony Bertoldi shares his over four decades of experience of how LIHTC can change the distressing statistic of homelessness. He writes American Dream Come True with conviction and passion. Not only is Tony highly disciplined and intelligent, but he also shows great wisdom in his approach to the vital need for affordable housing. Tony is the co-president at CREA, LLC which is a national LIHTC syndication that matches investment funds with investor relationships. He is a matchmaker for the good of businesses and the homeless. I personally was so impressed by this book that it gave me new hope for the homeless crisis. I believe that every politician and business leader should be required to read this book. Fixing homelessness is not a drain on businesses, but it can be a boon to them.
