I was born in Tennessee, and even though I grew up in Atlanta, GA, I still consider Tennessee my home state. Those who read this book and hopefully visit the beautiful Volunteer State will soon understand why Tennessee will always be “home, sweet home, to me.” Reading Amazing Tennessee! by Marianne Jennings will help open your eyes to the varied attractions in the state. Covering geography, history, business, the Civil Rights Movement, slavery, inventions, and the unbelievable beauty of Tennessee, this book makes me want to get in my van and drive there right now. You will learn enough about Tennessee to fill a book if you are a trivia buff. No matter what you are interested in, Tennessee has something for you. You will learn that the only freshwater pearl culturing farm in the USA is in TN and that FedEx and Holiday Inn were started in the Volunteer State. I am a proud Tennessean and proud of Marianne’s great book.
Amazing Tennessee! by Marianne Jennings is hard to pigeonhole. The writing includes many topics: trivia, history, the music and entertainment industry, many firsts, and the list goes on. The story engages the reader and enables them to read the whole book or just the portion that interests them without losing continuity. Since each section is stand-alone, you might want to read just the parts of the book dealing with music—after all, country music started in the eastern part of TN—and plan a visit to the places mentioned. History buffs will be thrilled by the story of Tennessee’s part in the Manhattan Project and all the battlefields found in the state. This easy-to-read book will help you fall in love with everything about Tennessee. I highly recommend it to those who know little about TN and those who love the state like I do.
