Alone in the Cave by Rosie Moore is about a little girl who is lost in a cave and cannot find her way out. There are so many passages leading off the main chamber that she does not know which one to take to go out. She sees rows and rows of marble pillars, but there are no spaces between them. Then she hears the sound of footsteps and realizes that they are her own. She starts running, not knowing where she is going. She falls down and then wakes up in her bed to realize that she has been dreaming. Children are taken into the world of dreams through this story and they see places they have never been before. Readers will ponder: Do the dreams we see come true?
The story is cute and the concept is adorable. Children are always curious about dreams and interpreting dreams, and they often wonder if dreams will come true. In this story, they see the little girl dreaming and it is real and relatable to them. The illustrations give clarity to the author’s words and they make the concept clear to readers.
