"Alex in Wonderland - I wonder about my family" is based on Lia's experience as a single mother and has her real life son as the main character. In her spare time, Lia enjoys making podcasts about different subjects. She lives in England with Alex. Alex’s Adventures in Wonderland: I Wonder about My Family is a children's learning adventure written by Lia Bebelia and illustrated by Christine P. Flores. Alex is a little boy who learns karate, loves to cook, wants to learn to swim and loves reading. While reading with his mother one day about Little Red Riding Hood learning to cook, mermaids learning to swim, two girls taking care of each other during illness and a young girl, a dog, a tin man, a lion and a scarecrow escaping an evil witch, Alex’s magical grandmother takes him on a journey to learn about how appearances don’t make people a family. It is the love of those whom you live with which not only shows you have a unique family, but also transforms it into something truly special.
The simplicity in Alex’s Adventures in Wonderland: I Wonder about My Family left me smiling from start to finish. Lia Bebelia’s beautifully written tale of a young boy who always finds himself wondering about so many things in life, subsequently finding the answers within his own mind while reading a book with his mum was truly magical. I loved how Alex looked deep within each of the stories in the book of fairy tales, only to find the similarities between the characters and himself. It is not until he finds the parallels between each of the characters within those tales and his own life that he realizes that no matter how they are structured, each person’s family is unique and is built on trust and love. Whether you live with your mother, your father, your grandparent(s) or your aunt and uncle, you belong to a family unit which is strong, loving and which gives you the best that life has to offer. I very much enjoyed Alex’s Adventures in Wonderland and think it would do very well being read by young children who find themselves inside their own unique family unit. Alex’s Adventures in Wonderland would also do well being stocked in school and home libraries, social offices, hospitals and more.
