Amity Day returns to her junior year at college while her boyfriend has graduated and gone to another university for law school in After the Fall by Carissa Lusk. Feeling intense loneliness, Amity suffers from nightmares that leave her shaken throughout the day and this makes her miss Alex even more. That is until she catches sight of a handsome classmate. Some unexplained connection brings Amity closer and closer to Marcus until she becomes truly torn between the love she feels for both men. As the year progresses and she allows her feelings for Marcus to direct her path, Amity experiences more and more dreams that seem more like memories. A strange truth begins to emerge as Amity and Marcus explore their relationship, but as some questions are answered even more confusion and heartache take place. Between dreams, unbelievable stories of the past, and amazing confessions, Amity continues to struggle defining her feelings for both Marcus and Alex until a final showdown. Who will win Amity’s heart and at what cost?
Destiny and personal choice war within Amity throughout After the Fall by Carissa Lusk. What seems to be a slow start allows you to get a strong feeling for the uncertainty Amity feels as she faces life without the support of the boyfriend she has known for several years. When her recurring nightmares turn into paranormal experiences, though, the story really takes off and keeps you turning the pages to see exactly what the connections are in this interesting love triangle. Well written and ultimately quite exciting, After the Fall is a great first novel and promises plenty of good writing by Lusk in the future.
