Adventures in Avalon - An Offbeat & Quirky Adult Bedtime Story by Ginger Marin is a fast, humorous read. A journalist accidentally lands in a part of Middle America, known as Avalon, where the residents are cartoons. Well, for those cartoons, this journalist is an abnormal (and possibly evil) figure. In the hope of finding some sort of clue to return to his kind of people (i.e. normal human beings), she finds The Avalon Defense Department. However, instead of getting any help, she gets a clear idea that she is not welcome in this place. Fortunately, she comes across the editor of Avalon Press, who allows her to stay in the newspaper office. This is where she reads about various -- and quite strange to say the least -- cases that occurred in Avalon. For instance, Avalon Defense Department Solves Penis and Nut Case, and The Case of the Missing Haunted Mobile Home.

The cases and their investigations are hilarious. Once I picked up the book, I could not put it down before getting a sufficient dose of humor. The author has not introduced a bunch of unnecessary characters, which has been a breath of relief for a forgetful reader like me. General Schnitzkof and Officer WingWing have been the leading detectives on all the cases. Probably because they are the only ones who are competent enough -- who knows? The clumsy WingWing made me laugh more than any other character. His innocent questions and General Schnitzkof's responses to his queries are extremely cute and funny. The author has included a few illustrations of various characters and those have been refreshing.

To me, as a reader, this book has delivered everything that it claimed. Very rarely do I find a book in the humor genre that actually makes me laugh; however, I am glad that I took a chance with this book because it made me laugh out loud and had not a dull moment. I would recommend Adventures in Avalon to readers who enjoy a good laugh and are ready to explore the weird imagination of the author.

Adventures in Avalon is nothing short of extraordinary. The book is a series of short stories about a dispatch reporter who discovers a lost civiilization of carton characters in Middle America. One will be glad to note that the author has not forgotten what it is like to have the imagination of a child.

This is definitely a five star read. The originality of the stories alone make this an outstanding book. The stories are interesting, humorous and very well written. The illustrations enhance the book a great deal. It is just so easy to fall in love with the characters.

The book consists of six stories about a dispatcher who finds herself amongst a group of cartoon figures. Each of the stories is unique and entertaining. They are truly hard to resist. I am ready to put pictures of the characters up on my wall.
The language of this book is not commonplace, but it is very evocative. Who could resist a story entitled The Case of the Missing Member? Certainly not I!

My thought about this book are all positive.i know that I will be reading it again and again. There is nothing about the author's style or content that I did not love.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for originality and appeal.i applaud Ms. Marin for being an outstanding author, whose first book is amazing.

Obviously the author has fled reality a while ago, and is currently living in a blanket fort in Carl Jung's living room. After reading this I'm convinced that its actually coded with secret messages asking for chew toys and Chateau Lafite wine. don't take my word for it, read it for yourself. :)

As an avid reader of gumshoe and whodunit novels, I enjoyed this delightful romp through the eyes of Ginger Marin. Fast paced and genuinely funny. Kept me on my seat from beginning to end. I highly recommend this.

WARNING: This is NOT a kids book! A quick glance at the cover and you may think it is, but it is so much more...The novel opens up with a description of the unique town of Avalon. A human female news reporter (the author quite possibly) finds herself caught up in this undiscovered real cartoon town. Yes, cartoon!

The beginning of the story centers around a case of domestic abuse, where the wife cuts off her husband’s penis. Scheduled for surgery to re-attach his member, and attending court… the reporter finds herself caught up in between the humorous mess. My favorite character is dumb dumb Officer WingWing.

A humorous cartoon for adults that will paint a smile on anyone’s face, and make you laugh out loud. I loved how each character is introduced and well described followed by a cartoon graphic picture. So you imagine your own version of that character and then you see a true picture of it. Every time I laughed.

This quote sums up the randomness and hilariousness of the novel: “Speaking of movies, the only ones they show at Avalon Movie Theater are ‘Pipperschniddle’, about a little boy who befriends cockroach and teaches him to dance and ‘Peenie’ about a girl who grows a penis in her garden and then transplants it onto the back of her pet mouse.”

And it’s not all just about private parts…The protagonist reporter jumps into one case after the next of the Avalon Police Defense Department (Police)… the next one is called the case of the Missing Haunted Mobile Home. The funny stories go on. Excellent bedtime read, or when you need simply something to cheer you up. I loved this and if you are into lighthearted mature comic reads, I think you will too. I give this 5 full glasses of wine and some more!
