Although I have read the first book, I can confidently state this one also works well as a stand-alone read. The merging of Christian fiction, sci-fi, and thriller genres is perfectly executed. Despite its Christianity-orientated vein, I never felt like religion was forced or oversaturated the story. It was used as a means to create a compelling narrative and advance the plot which focuses on the approach of the end of days. I thought the translation of other languages by annotation was a really nice touch, allowing the reader to see the meaning without having to load up translate on their kindle or pc.

With high stakes, action, and a growing threat, William, Rich, and Tara are thrust into a fast-paced race against the Devil himself. Its descriptive narrative leaves no question as to the settings and events as they unfold, and while you meet characters from the former book, you are also introduced to new and interesting beings as events unfold. Action, suspense, and a ticking clock ensure you won't want to look away while the unique plot and great characters keep you engaged. The end of days was always predicted, but can their actions delay that which is inevitable?

William is a fascinating character to encounter after his initial experiences with the dark forces, and his mental journey during this novel is a wonderful exercise in character development. Readers of supernatural thrillers are sure to enjoy the biblical themes and the good versus evil spirit of the piece, as well as the obvious talent which Thompson has for ramping up a cinematic and emotive atmosphere where it counts. The plot is not too complex, and it runs with some fun twists towards a really enjoyable conclusion. Overall, Abomination Desolation is definitely a recommended read for fans of the supernatural genre seeking a new apocalyptic fight to enjoy.

In Abomination Desolation by Alan Thompson, William Mears is a brilliant scientist who wants to cure the world of injuries that, at this time, are considered unable to be repaired. His work includes the use of embryonic stem cells that must come from the person who has the injury. William must discover how to create a human embryonic clone. We all know where the path paved with good intentions leads, however, and William soon finds himself needing to take on the Devil himself.

I love good sci-fi and this book is a GREAT sci-fi read. William Mears is a genuinely good guy who wants to do a good thing. I mean, tell me one thing bad about wanting to heal injuries that can’t be healed. Yet, as this book shows us, humans will be humans and, of course, it all goes wrong. Not only does it all go wrong, but a good man must now have a showdown with Lucifer! This book really delivered on all levels for me. It is well written, flows beautifully and has a great pace. The characters are all engaging and you really want to get in and become invested in this great battle of good and evil. Most of all, it delivered something in a new way for me that I really enjoyed. I have never seen the perfect blend of sci-fi and the supernatural as I did here. If you would like to dive into a great world and forget about what is going on right now, Abomination Desolation by Alan Thompson is the book for you.

The characters are exceptional and they are elaborately developed; multidimensional and real. I enjoyed the way the author develops the conflict in the story. William is a genius who thought his work can help advance humanity, but he unwittingly created a tool that the evil one will use to destroy the very humanity William wants to save, and in this lies the very premise of the psychological conflict that dominates the story. The writing is beautiful and I loved the way the author describes both scenes and the setting. The image of Los Angeles, the City of Angels, feels like a corona moment: “The city streets were mostly devoid of traffic, except for an occasional car or city vehicle here and there, or a sparse scattering of pedestrians.” Abomination Desolation is a fast-paced, tightly plotted story that ramps up quickly to an explosive denouement, an exploration of the conflict between good and evil.
