Have you ever considered explaining your faith alphabetically? Using keywords like angels and disciples to emphasize a letter of the alphabet? Well, that’s an interesting way to introduce young readers to faith, the Bible, and so much more, while also teaching them the alphabet and the rudiments of reading. Like, “T is for Trust that only Jesus can supply.” And “V is for Verses in the Bible that explain our worth.” There are a lot of deep meanings and complicated interpretations that can be found in Bible readings and in our faith, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Understanding faith like a child will open the doors to us all for our heavenly reward.
Yvonne M Morgan’s picture book story, ABCs From the Bible, is a simple, but clever way to introduce both the alphabet and the key sources of faith. Told in rhyming verse, each letter accentuates an act of prayer, an act of faith, an important person from the Bible, and each letter association is accompanied by a colorful illustration that distinctly represents what the author is trying to convey. Prayers at the end of the book provide more detailed explanations (in simple language for young readers to understand) about the Bible, angels, the Garden of Eden, the disciples, heaven and so much more. This leaves the topic open for further discussion, which is to be expected as young readers are always full of questions. I love the author’s description of the Bible as “a very long letter from God.” By providing young readers with something to compare it to in their world, the author has opened the doors to deeper understanding and appreciation of God’s word. Loved it!
