Who are we really in the grand scheme of things called life? Are we what we’ve made ourselves today? Or, are we merely pawns of some higher power? If we could do things differently, go back and change our choices and direction in life, would things be any different today? Would they be better? Or worse? We all have moments of self-doubt, wondering where we went wrong and what we could have done differently. But the fact remains that life moves forward not backward and we must embrace what we have now and carry it through to the end. “When life hands you lemons/ you should take those seeds/ and plant more lemons./ Allow your seeds to last you for a lifetime.” We can’t spend our lives worrying about the what-ifs and would-have-beens of a past that will forever remain in the past. All we can do is encourage ourselves in the now for the future: “A big key to success is self-encouragement./ Always motivate yourself to do better.”
Antoine Kidd’s collection of poems, A Walk Through Life, is very inspirational. With a cleverly thought out introduction, the poet presents the many challenging thoughts that flood all of our minds: the what-ifs and would-have-beens. Following through his collection of poems, the reader will gain more insight into how to face today and the many tomorrows of the rest of our lives. We can’t live in self-doubt. We can’t dwell on what others think of us. We can’t negate the loves in our lives that have come and gone. All we can do is move forward. “Truth of the matter is,/ who really cares what they say?/ Just do you and live your life.” This is a powerful collection of thought-provoking poems, all free verse, and full of relevant concerns we all face at one time or another. A book to keep handy and read for reassurance when life starts getting us down.
