A woman murdered in her pottery studio opens an investigation into other crimes in the murder mystery, A Time to Kiln (A Jade Blackwell Mystery) by Gilian Baker. A blogger and ghostwriter, Jade Blackwell's creative side seems dull lately. Her relationship with her husband, Christian, although happy is in a rut; her daughter, Ellie, has left home, and her job has lost its charm. Although Jade has a stable, if not practical life, she feels the need to search for stimulation outside of the daily grind. When Ellie's friend, Dillon, is suspected of murdering his wife, Paula, it is a chance for Jade to exercise her little gray cells. Jade's friend, Gabby, is the lawyer appointed to represent Dillon, and Jade is given the opportunity to be hired as a consultant on the case. However, Jade and Christian don't wish to have their daughter's name associated with Dillon or the homicide investigation. Despite Jade's reluctance, Gabby and Ellie coerce her into assisting Dillon's counsel in hunting for the real killer. However, the further Jade and Gabby look into the circumstances of the crime, the more the evidence incriminates Dillon. The grim reality of a killer on the loose is brought home when someone else is found murdered in Paula's studio, and unfortunately the evidence again points to Dillon. Can Jade, Gabby, and Ellie find the real murderer or is Dillon actually guilty of murder?

A Time to Kiln (A Jade Blackwell Mystery) by Gilian Baker is a delightful sleuth murder mystery. It is the entertaining sequel in a charming murder mystery series. The story is engaging, the plot suspenseful, and the characters likable. Baby Boomers will be able to relate to and admire the middle-aged heroine. The protagonist's flaws and insecurities give her character a realistic aspect. Jade is an ordinary woman, who, after her daughter leaves for college, retires from the security of a stable career and becomes a blogging entrepreneur. Jade's character is an inspiration to everyone who wants to push past their comfort zone and try something new. It is a delightful cozy mystery, which will satisfy those who enjoy armchair sleuthing along with an amateur detective.
