A Tale of Bread and Thread by Maxine Rose Schur is a children's adventure story. The king is coming to town and everyone is so excited. The king has ordered the town baker to produce a delicious loaf of bread and his wife to make a handkerchief. The problem is neither the baker nor his wife is very good at what they do, and their efforts are a disaster. But are they? What happens when the baker's monstrous loaf of bread escapes into the sun? And how did his wife manage to sew a handkerchief as big as a blanket? When the Bumble-Crumbs discover hidden talents, their lives are turned around. Can they finally have the dream home they've always wanted?

A Tale of Bread and Thread by Maxine Rose Schur is a wonderfully funny tale about a baker and his wife and their everyday mishaps. The book has some amazing illustrations by Cristina de Liso that tell the story alongside the words. It is full of humor and is guaranteed to have kids rolling about with laughter as they read about the baker's mishaps, but there is a more serious side to this story. It teaches children that no matter how much they struggle with some things and can't seem to get them right, there is always something they are good at. We all have hidden talents; we just have to find them. The characters in this story are fun and kids will love them – some may even identify with one or two. Overall, this is a thoroughly enjoyable story that kids everywhere will love.
