A Single Light by Tosca Lee is the conclusion of the story begun in The Line Between. I am a huge fan of the first book, so I was anxious to see if A Single Light measured up to its predecessor. This new story finds the two main characters, Wynter and Chase, along with 61 others, passing time in an underground safe house for six months while the world outside evolves into a darker and sicker version of itself. When the door to their silo finally opens, they emerge to find that their friends above ground, who were supposed to be watching over them, are nowhere to be found. For the sake of Truly, her adopted child, and her friend Julie who is desperately ill and in need of medicine that can only be found in a big city, Wynter and Chase have no choice but to venture out into a world gone mad.

A Single Light easily lives up to the high bar set by The Line Between. Its plot continues to be fast-paced and unpredictable, driven by Wynter’s self-sacrificing actions for those that she loves. Yet, the plot also delves into fresh territory this time around. Before, it was a world falling apart and the enemy was the leaders of the cult that raised her. In A Single Light, the world is completely broken and dark and Wynter finds new enemies around every corner, dead set on extinguishing her internal light. The character arcs for Wynter and Chase are also very satisfying in A Single Light. They both go through significant ups and downs as they struggle to cope with a world so devoid of hope. Overall, I had a great time reading. It’s beautifully written with equal measures of edge-of-your-seat action, and heartfelt moments that made me teary-eyed. A Single Light is another fantastic book by Tosca Lee and I highly recommend it.
