Charles Bolton and Louisa Strickland were childhood friends and neighbors. While Charles thought little about marriage, Louisa didn’t care for it at all. She loved control, so she chose independence over a husband’s protection. After Louisa’s stepmother forced her to catch a husband, she recruited Charles into a phony courtship to get everyone off her back. However, nature had other ideas, and something happened that influenced their friendship. In time, the duo fought the most significant war of their life, refereed by their hearts. When debts were called in, and a ruthless gaming hell owner swore vengeance, they would decide if marriage was for them, if they could love, if they were soulmates after all. Read A Rake Like You by Becky Michaels for the full details.

A Rake Like You by Becky Michaels is a gripping historical novel that will appeal to the hopelessly romantic. I loved the storyline, which centered on family, but more around Louisa. She was the perfect protagonist because she was flawed yet astute, stubborn, kind, protective, and a wonderful human. However, everyone needs a father like hers, who values the female child and gives her equal opportunities. I also loved to hate Flora because she was fickle yet could stand her ground, especially against Fitzgerald. This novel also sheds some light on marriage, boundaries, and spousal priority. I loved it when Finch stood up to his mother in defense of his wife. Becky developed a brilliant plot and told a beautiful story with an engaging writing style. I look forward to more.
