Kailyn is crushed by the loss of her grandfather, but that feeling soon turns to amazement when she discovers a secret he left behind in A Queen’s Wish: Noblesse Oblige by G.F. Denehy. While searching for the watch he never took off, but which wasn’t on him at the funeral home, she discovers an old, broken tennis racket. Kailyn is surprised by what appears to have been an important part of her grandfather’s life that she had never known about. When she follows the clues in the notes he left behind, Kailyn begins an amazing quest that leads her to discover that magic is quite real. Although her grandfather said to keep everything secret, Kailyn tells her best friend, Aiden, and her new friend, Sofia, all about the magic. They help Kailyn begin to find answers that take her farther along the path of discovering more about her grandfather, and an amazing story involving magic and a real queen from hundreds of years ago. The biggest surprise, though, is that a talking cat is the key to finding out even more!
Lots of fun and full of interesting puzzles, A Queen’s Wish: Noblesse Oblige by G.F. Denehy is a wonderful story for boys and girls who like adventures with a little magic thrown in. Add to that a love for the game of tennis and an interest in history, and you have a well-written, engaging story sure to capture the attention of almost any upper elementary or middle school student. Denehy writes with humor and compassion as the characters face emotional challenges, and he also shows the benefits of friendship and commitment. The beginning of what promises to be a great series, A Queen’s Wish: Noblesse Oblige is a book that is hard to put down. Very nicely done. I can't wait to read more.
