A Morning With Blueberry by Jon Seymour is a delightful picture book that tells the story of Blueberry the Muffin. One morning, he sets off to find something to eat, greeting his friends on the way. Soon he spots his favorite snack—a bowl of icing. Although the object is out of his reach, he decides to give it a shot. Desperate to get his hands on the bowl, he makes several attempts, but they do not pay off. As he begins to lose heart, the friends introduced earlier cheer for him, restoring part of his faith in himself. Blueberry gets up one more time and finally manages to land in the bowl of icing, transforming himself into the happiest cupcake in the kitchen.

Jon Seymour’s A Morning With Blueberry is a quick and fun read. While keeping the story light and enjoyable, the author delivers important messages to young readers. Despite repeated failures, Blueberry shows remarkable resilience by refusing to give up. The author nevertheless keeps it realistic. Failing to reach his goal over and over again frustrates the protagonist, and if his friends had not cheered him on, he would have perhaps not succeeded. This shows the importance of perseverance and support. The illustrations, being simple, can help young readers focus better on the text. The story also comes with an easy-to-follow recipe and a simple drawing section, which are undoubtedly great additions to this marvelous picture book. A Morning With Blueberry is recommended for children aged two to four.
