A battle between the want for revenge and an unexpected desire ensues in A Knight's Vengeance: Knight's Series, Book 1 by Catherine Kean. Geoffrey de Lanceau vowed to take revenge for his father’s death and get back what rightfully belongs to him. When he stumbles upon a beautiful maiden, the last thing he expected was for her to be the daughter of his enemy. In the end, will he choose love or revenge?
A Knight's Vengeance by Catherine Kean is a classic story set in medieval times with a good dash of revenge in the plot. I can’t say I’ve never read a book that was not similar to this; however, Kean does a good job of making her book stand out. I enjoyed the female lead in the story with her fiery countenance and refusal to simply be a damsel in distress. I also really enjoyed that despite their obvious attraction to one another, neither Geoffrey nor Elizabeth were willing to give in to their feelings, considering the other was an enemy. This added a slow-burn effect to the romance which personally beats the immediate, fast-paced love you find in most romances. I think this series has potential.
The narration by James Gillies elevated this story with his strong and rich tone of voice. I think Gillies did a fantastic job with the pacing of his reading; he read at the perfect tempo which allowed the listener to become immersed in the story without any difficulty. His tone of voice also suited the setting of the story perfectly and he easily adapted his voice for various characters.
