Author Biography

When S.K. Andrews wasn't swimming in the Pacific Ocean in her hometown of Laguna Beach, California, she busied herself by writing fantasy stories and acting on stage. Having grown up watching Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone and Night Gallery shows on TV, S.K. quickly fell in love with paranormal tales with a message of wisdom and love. Also, being a fan of romance novels and non-fiction ghost stories, she decided to marry the two and write paranormal novels of suspense, adventure, and intrigue with a strong romantic foundation. The sense of adventure inside her came from summers of camping with her family in Mexico (Baja California) and walking along beaches with no other footprints but hers, as her family members unpacked the camper and got ready to collect clams right off the shoreline for dinner. In The Kelly Society book series, S.K.'s heroine, paranormal cleanser Vivien Kelly and her team are in a race to rid the modern world of deadly Celtic creatures. Bay of Darkness and A Kelly Society Christmas are the first two books in the series. Bay of Darkness won the Finalist prize in 2019 from N.N. Light's Book Heaven and also placed Finalist with Readers Favorite in 2020.

A Kelly Society Christmas by S.K. Andrews is a paranormal holiday story. It is part of a series, but it can be a stand-alone as well. Vivien Kelly is a paranormal cleanser. She had just defeated one bad demon and was trying to get ready for Christmas when she found out she had another demon to fight. Her friend, Josh, accidentally summoned the demon Krampus. Krampus takes bad children to Hell. Vivien, her soul mate, a few friends, and the demon Hel fight Krampus to save Josh while getting ready for Christmas. S.K. Andrews uses a great twist at the end to show us that there might be more in this series.

I thought that A Kelly Society Christmas by S.K. Andrews was such a fun story. I liked that it is part of a series, but you don't have to read them to understand. The characters were such fun. Hel is my favorite with a few surprises, which I thought were unique. I liked that S.K. Andrews explained who the demons were. The world-building was done really well. It made me wish it was Christmas. The story started slowly, but then it became a quick read. I loved the ending; it had a few twists and all the Christmassy feels. If you love paranormal stories and need a good Christmas read, I highly recommend this. It will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit, no matter what time of the year it is.

After killing a demon (Dagda) and saving the modern world, paranormal cleanser Vivien Kelly only has three days till Christmas. She scrambles to buy gifts, grocery shop for holiday feasts, and get a Christmas tree. She’s on track when suddenly her young friend Josh calls down the wrath of Krampus, the Christmas demon. Can Vivien buy gifts, cook Christmas dinner, decorate the tree, and also save Josh before Krampus drags him to eternal hell? Vivien must call upon the most frightening goddess of all for help—Hel, goddess of the underworld.

Although the first book in the Kelly Society series, Bay of Darkness, sets the stage for the series, the second book, A Kelly Society Christmas, begins where the first left off without the slightest hiccup or lack of connectivity. In short, this book easily comes in as a stand-alone novel. S.K. Andrews hits the ground running with a scene and accompanying dialog that instantly pulls the reader into the story. In a handful of paragraphs, one is apprised of the battle with Dagda and her relationship with Neal (later to be revealed as a soul mate), as well as the new situation that requires her immediate attention.

Andrews' writing style is smooth, bereft of minute details that tend to slow down an otherwise fast-paced story, and although a young adult targeted story, more mature readers will find much to like about the pace and sharply detailed action scenes. Especially noticeable is the dialog among all the characters in the story… teenagers talk like teens and adults talk like adults. All in all, a rollicking good story that combines the horror of demons with a centuries-long romance between soul mates, and the simple fun of reading a really good story by an exceptionally skilled author.
