A Haunting of Words by Brian Paone, DW Vogel, et al. is a diverse collection of short stories that will make you think about everyday events in a new light. Each story is thought provoking and has a dark side, with an ending you would never expect. You will ask yourself, what is real and what is just your imagination? Is there life after death, and those noises you hear, are they in your imagination or not? Could there be something lurking in the shadows, watching and waiting to contact you? Explore the possibility that there is life after death where you could meet an idol that refuses to pass to the other side, or is it possible that wronged tortured souls do want revenge? The stories will make you laugh out loud, cry or just make you shudder, but you will want to read this before darkness falls.
I was totally engaged by this book immediately. The first story about Mark and his drug fuelled, violent outbursts had such a unique plot that I was hooked. This collection of stories was gripping, with rich complex characters, and each tale had a plot full of suspense that kept you guessing. My personal favourite has to be Storm House - this was not the best marriage in the world but the whole story made me laugh out loud, and this was because of the great dialogue between the husband and wife. Black Butterfly literally sent shivers down my spine, and I would love to read this as a full novel. The one story that touched my heart was Knock Knock; the subject matter was both heartwarming and captivating. A perfect book for campfire tales, or just to plant a seed of terror in someone’s mind. Highly recommended.
