We all love our beautiful birthstones. Mary L. Ball, in her book A Gem of Worth, explains how our birthstone is linked to our personality. She also uses each birthstone to give hope to the person born in the stone’s month. Mary imparts knowledge concerning each stone including what it looks like, its history, and where they are mined. She links the birthstone to godly traits and encourages the reader to use those traits for the honor and glory of God. She also explains how the stones were used in ancient days and the legends of their mystical powers. She does not indicate that the stones are mystical, but she shares the history of them. This is a short read with much interesting information imparted.

In the concise book, A Gem of Worth, Mary L. Ball shares a plethora of information concerning the birthstone of each month. She breaks down each chapter on the birthstone for each month into various sections: general information, what she calls the stone’s presence, the uniqueness of the stone, the Christian meaning of the stone, how it helps you be the best you can be, and on which anniversary the stone is traditionally given. Some of the months have more than one stone. After she shares information on all the months’ stones, Mary gives a bonus. Her last chapter shares information on the flower(s) for each month with their meaning(s). This is a delightful read that will have you appreciating birthstones more than you ever have.

I truly adored this book, as a Christian it redeemed birthstones for me. It thrilled me to see these birthstones actually have Biblical origins and this amazing book revealed the truths behind each one. Definitely a must-read!
