Set in England in 2019, A Faulty Eviction by Daniel Adam Garwood is a humorously told story filled with drama and action. Kevin Douglas is a mean-spirited, ego-fueled, and domineering man who owns Pendrick Court. He decides to send out eviction notices to his tenants. But none of the tenants, including his son, Sean, are ready to budge. They find a strong bond in the common cause to fight back and keep their homes. The media gets involved as the two-week-long battle ensues. But when two dead bodies turn up at Pendrick Court, no one is certain if any of the tenants will remain alive anytime soon.
This book is a page-turner and the author creates a protagonist (or is it an antagonist?) that grabs readers’ attention right off the bat. I didn’t like Kevin from the first moment I met him in the story, mailing eviction notices. It is wonderfully plotted, poignant, and, at times, heartbreaking. The humor carries the reader through each page of the story, and the action never slows down. The complexity in character development had me wowed, and characters like Edna, Sean, Anah, and other tenants will keep readers entranced. It is hilarious and the author has the knack for writing interesting details into the already eccentric characters. Some books are meant to be bestsellers, and A Faulty Eviction is one of them, thanks to the exceptionally good storytelling skills of the author and characters that leap off the pages with life. Daniel Adam Garwood is a master entertainer who kept my undivided attention for hours, drawing me into the story with beautiful prose, well-drawn settings, and unforgettable characters in whom I invested my time as I experienced the full range of their human emotions.
