In the endearing children’s story, A Family For Riley: A Corgi Lover's Tale by Tammy Knudtson, a cute puppy finds a home with a loving family. On a quaint farm on a hill, a Welsh corgi is about to have puppies. One beautiful spring morning, Bess gives birth to six sweet puppies. One of them is named Riley. The days that follow are full of fun and joy as Riley plays with his brothers. After some time, Bess gathers her puppies and assures them that she will always love them even after they leave the farm. One by one, the puppies are adopted by other families. Seeing his brothers leave saddens Riley who wonders whether he will ever be adopted. He also misses playing with the other puppies. Bess continues to reassure him and soon enough, it is Riley’s turn to leave the farm.
The story is a wonderful portrait of love and family throughout a puppy’s adoption process. I loved the illustrations which are bright and which beautifully portray the characters in the book; they also show the farm’s scenic surroundings. Riley is an adorable dog and his story inspires hope. The work aptly captures his feelings following his brothers’ adoptions and his fear of becoming the one who is left behind. I enjoyed Bess’s conversations with her puppies and the fun times the brothers have while living on the farm. A Family For Riley by Tammy Knudtson is a charming story with a delightful ending. It includes splendid characters and stunning illustrations that children will love.
