Linda Matesa wrote her first book in 2019 after her 2nd brain tumor surgery - barely seeing due to double vision, severe nystagmus, and difficulty walking, along with other health issues.
She never thought she could ever publish a book, but she wanted to leave a little part of herself in this world and fear from loosing her sight and life was her biggest motivator at the time.
The royalties of her first book are being redirected to fulfil small dreams of the little brain tumor patients.
Her second book “A Day with Granny Nelly” was released in January 2021 and was inspired by her mother Nellija. Her mother was not very excited when she first heard the storyline, but after burning a porridge for the third time the same day, she called Linda and said the storyline is spot on.

A Day with Granny Nelly is a humorous story written by Linda Matesa. Granny Nelly’s grandson comes over to spend the day with her. Right from the start things get a little wild and crazy as they prepare to head to the grocery store. First, Granny tries to put on her grandson’s shoe. On the way to the store, there is an unusual noise; it is a trash can being dragged by their car. A very messy shopping trip ensues and, on the way, out Granny meets someone she knows. Once they are finally home again there is a game of hide and seek and a bedtime story before they both snuggle down for the night.
A Day with Granny Nelly is a great story for anyone who has an unconventional grandma. So often grandmothers are depicted as sweet, neat, and calm. Granny Nelly is not like that at all. I am sure there is never a dull moment at her house. Masa Pavlovic’s illustrations really make the story. She has created a delightful cozy home, so make sure to look for the cat in each picture. Granny is depicted as a relaxed, stylish grandma, who looks like she would be fun to hang out with. Even though the day may not go as planned, it is clear there is a lot of love between Granny Nelly and her grandson. This one is for all the grandmas who do not fit the granny stereotype. Grandmas can be fun, wild and a little eccentric too.
