A Cowgirl Always Gets Even by Dawn Nelson is a bunch of very well written short stories. Dawn has had many different experiences in many different places and she is kind enough to share them with us in a very real way. There are about forty stories and a dozen poems contained in this collection. Readers are made to feel like old friends sitting around the campfire, sharing the good and bad stuff that happened to Dawn Nelson over the years. We are introduced to her young daughter in several of the stories, who always has clever words of wisdom to share. We travel to trade shows and meet crazy fans, ride along as the cows are herded in, meet a difficult bull and so much more. The poems tell another set of stories about cowboys, cowgirls, cows and ghosts.
A Cowgirl Always Gets Even is as perfect a book for the young teen interested in horses as it is for the senior citizen that has never left the big city. Dawn Nelson has written this book for readers of all ages and done a perfect job of hitting the bull’s-eye right in the center circle. I particularly liked that each story was short, to the point, yet perfectly executed. Dawn has written other award-winning short story books and I plan to read them all. A Cowgirl Girl Always Gets Even is another sure fire five star winner for the talented Dawn Nelson.
