Franklin is a ferret with special needs. Justin is a little boy with special needs. Both Franklin and Justin have seeing problems and are handicapped; Justin is only mobile in his wheelchair. Both Franklin and Justin are very sad because they fear they have been forgotten in all the fuss and excitement of Christmas. You see, Franklin wants to belong to a loving family and Justin wants to have a friend who understands his pain and frustrations. Neither one knew the other, that is until Santa heard their pleas and left Franklin in a small cage under Justin’s Christmas tree. Christmas morning was a time for smiles all around, especially for two special beings, Franklin and Justin, who had seldom felt a need to smile before.

V.L. Marsell and Lucie Greasley’s picture book story, A Christmas Star Wish, is a heartwarming tale told in the spirit of the magic of Christmas. Two beings, a ferret and a boy, both ridiculed and bullied because of their special needs, are brought together to bring each other joy and happiness. Not the typical story for Christmas, the authors present an inspiring tale of hope and renewal of faith, a faith that says yes, you can wish upon a star and the wish will be granted. This story will hopefully open the hearts of children everywhere to reach out in friendship to other children who have special needs. We all need a little joy in our Christmas and all it takes is a wish and a little bit of love. Charming illustrations and a powerful message.
