Fans of Andrew Diamond’s many books and series have another great story to enjoy in 32 Minutes: Freddy Ferguson Book 3, where Diamond brings together two of his favorite series’ protagonists, Freddy Ferguson and Claire Chastain. The plot revolves around Freddy’s search for a suddenly-gone-missing corporate executive. Freddy is hired by the executive’s arrogant boss who makes it clear to Freddy from the outset that he sees everyone, including Freddy, as little more than a mat under his feet. Part of my enjoyment of the novel was sensing Freddy’s growing dislike for this despicable man. Through Freddy’s own words and actions, Diamond does a stellar job of getting readers to hate him too. Those who enjoy getting inside the characters as much as being absorbed by a good plot will love Freddy’s reaction to Leighton Graham, who is as overbearing as his name.
Watching Freddy go from a dearth of clues to solving the mysterious disappearance and nailing the culprit shows readers why Andrew Diamond’s books are so successful. He plots 32 Minutes carefully, keeps readers guessing throughout, and even when Freddy is doing little more than ruminating on his life and his love for Claire, the pace never flags. The romantic interludes with Claire are pleasant, but not a distracting diversion. Chapters are short but it’s near impossible not to take a peek at the next chapter before setting the book aside. That’s good writing. Of course, the most exciting part of the story takes place near the end. Throughout the novel, I was curious about its title. Now I know and it was so worth the read to find out. Enjoy the book. I certainly did.
