15 Minutes by Bethany Lopez is a sizzling novella about an unlikely pair of lovers. Victoria and Brock are polar opposites, but, as the saying goes, opposites attract. After running into Victoria at a bar, Brock feels this undeniable pull to the strait-laced woman. Although she was engaged to his friend at one point, he wants to pursue some sort of relationship with her. Victoria has grown up guarding her heart against men after her father left her mother for another woman. She’s unsure of Brock’s intentions, but gives him the benefit of the doubt. When they finally connect, sparks fly, but can they maintain the relationship in the face of so many differences?
Miss Lopez takes a timeless plot and tweaks it slightly. Usually, it is the women who change the men, but in this case, Brock is the one to peel Victoria from her shell. However, I felt the conflict was a bit abrupt and not very believable. I had hoped for more build up. Up until the climax of the novella, I thought things were going rather well between the pair. I loved Brock’s dedication to Victoria, but thought his desire to protect her from pain was slightly out of character. She had already changed and wanted to be with him and he shoved that aside. It made me dislike him slightly at that point in the story. I did love how his friends grew to accept Victoria, though, and were forgiving of her past with Scott. 15 Minutes is a steamy weekend read and is sure to give you a thrill.
