Meet Growi and Fixi, Romy's two best friends whom only she can see. Growi loved challenges and liked trying out new things and Fixi hated making mistakes. They were always with Romy and one particular day in school, Romy was busy trying to finish the writing exercises the teacher had given in class. Fixi quickly pointed out how Romy was an awful writer and would not be able to get the work done properly. The same thing happened during recess when Romy missed a shot. Fixi told her she was not good enough and she had let her entire team down. Growi is different from Fixi, is encouraging and looks at things in a positive way. She motivates Romy by telling her she can do things. That night while her mother was tucking her into bed, Romy burst into tears. She told her mother about the two invisible friends she had in her head and how they fight all the time inside her head. While Fixi tells her she is stupid, Growi thinks she could practice, learn and improve. What was Romy's mother's advice on how to tackle the problem?
Your Thoughts Matter: Negative Self-Talk, Growth Mindset by Esther Pia Cordova is an inspiring and uplifting book that makes children aware of the voices they have inside and will encourage them to develop a positive voice and ignore the Fixi in them. It is the best way to help youngsters get rid of a Fixed Mindset and work on a Growth Mindset. Mariya Elizarova's wonderful illustrations make it easy for young readers to understand the concept and work towards developing the Growi in them. It is a good story to help children look into themselves and see which voice they usually listen to. If they are listening to Fixi a lot, then it is time to listen to Growi. I like the approach to the topic and the way the author has given identities to the two voices inside us, making it tangible to youngsters. This book is a must-read and a must-have in all homes, schools and public libraries as it is the best way to help children understand the power of their thoughts and to start believing in themselves. It is a good way for them to have control over their thoughts and think positively all the time.
