Xand is still haunted by memories of the night the gargoyles invaded his family home and took away his parents. Growing up on his grandparents' farm, and keeping close contact with his rescuer and friend, Jork the overgrown dwarf, and Jork’s son, Zeg, Xand, now a young man, is excited about the forthcoming celebration to mark the anniversary of the end of the Great War against the gargoyles. Only, the gargoyles arrive just in time to spoil the celebration and to again put the fear of their power and that of the king of the gargoyles into everyone’s hearts. A sun fairy, Yama, brings her magic along to help the young people who have their own sources of magic to repel the invading army of gargoyles. It’s a battle Xand never believed he’d have to fight.
Young author Jax Ward has woven a marvelous, adventurous plot of magic and mayhem in his fantasy novel, Xand and the Knights of Honor. The story begins with a miner discovering a precious gem with overwhelming powers that transport him elsewhere. The reader is intrigued and anxiously awaits some explanation of where this miner disappeared and how he plays into the story. The plot then follows Xand’s life from the gargoyle invasion of his home to his reaching manhood and claiming the powers he didn’t realize he possessed, just in time to meet the invading antagonists head-on. The characters are well developed and the author has a great knack for setting the scene and pulling the reader into the story. Just as the climax is reached, the author leaves the reader dangling with the promise of more to come. A great story for young readers; a wonderful accomplishment from a very talented young writer.
