You have a great idea, a plot you’ve been working on in your mind, but you just haven’t started writing it down. Why? Procrastination? Or simply the fear of getting it right? There are a lot of books on the market that can help a would-be writer overcome hesitation, procrastination, and fear of imperfection. But Mary Deal’s Write It Right: Tips For Authors is probably one of the better resources to help wannabe as well as established writers get their writing into the right gear and move forward.
From the first sentence, even the first word, to fine-tuning the finished product and editing skills including punctuation, spelling and all that grammar stuff, this author has produced a wealth of helpful tips to get you started and see you through to the finished product. Topics include keeping idea notes and filing them in a way in which they can be easily accessed, how sleep can induce creativity, writer’s block (most writers suffer from this stigma at one time or another), basic rules and prompts, key tips for beginners and so much more. There is even a couple of chapters on plagiarism, including a first-hand account of a confrontation the author had with a plagiarist. And, there is a chapter on establishing a good writer’s reference library, complete with suggested resources and a short blurb about her recommendations. Each article, many of which have been previously published, is well presented with key points described and highlighted so the reader/writer can absorb the ideas and learn from them. Mary Deal’s Write It Right: Tips For Authors is an excellent resource for all writers. As the title suggests, you may as well "write it right".
