Worpple is a children’s novel written by Lynn K. Russell. The story starts with a thirteen-year-old boy known as Cameron, or Cam for short. He was a bit bigger than his peers, which made him feel like a sore thumb sticking out. As if things could not get any worse, the bullies in school were constantly berating him for things Cam had no control over. The only solace he had was hanging out with his dad, but having divorced parents living in two separate houses did not make things any easier. His mundane life was nothing special until an odd creature popped into his bedroom! What was even more surprising is that this creature came from another dimension called Worpple! Life was starting to become more thrilling as Cameron discovered the world of his new friend. However, the journey to Worpple might be more dangerous than Cam initially thought.
Worpple by Lynn K. Russell is a unique take on learning to control one’s emotions and to keep a clear mind and a kind heart. The background story of Cameron was very relatable, especially when I thought of my own childhood of being bullied. Cam’s struggles in his young life really hit me with just how similar our lives are. Throughout the story, Worpple also shows the true value of friendship when it develops with love and care for one another, by helping those in need even when it means being selfless. Overall, this book is very thrilling and exciting. I would definitely recommend Worpple to young readers for its morals and life lessons.
