A mystery two decades old comes to light when a ghostwriter starts researching her client's history in the sleuth mystery Without A Word (Ghostwriter Mystery 7) by C.A. Larmer. Twenty years ago, ten-year-old Phoebe awoke to find her family gone and the house emptied of furniture and personal belongings. Adopted and raised by her crotchety neighbor, Phoebe manages to build a successful life. Wanting to move on from her traumatic history and show the world how far she has come, Phoebe hires Roxy Parker to ghostwrite her autobiography. Known for her journalistic sleuthing skills, Roxy is cautioned to only record Phoebe's recollections and not to probe any further into the mystery. Unfortunately, most of Pheobe's memories come from what others have told her, influencing Roxy to dig deeper. However, some sources are not very forthcoming, and in several of the interviews, events, and situations from the past leave her with more questions about what actually happened. Did Phoebe's parents willingly abandon their daughter? Or was there something sinister hiding behind the scenes?
Starring a journalist, Without A Word (Ghostwriter Mystery 7) by C.A. Larmer is a thrilling amateur sleuth mystery. It is a fascinating story with a heart-rending plot that captured me from the start. The nightmarish and devastating account of an abandoned child had me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn't put the book down until I reached the end. Although this is not the first and only book in a series, it did beautifully as a standalone. With engaging characters and intriguing storylines, I am looking forward to reading more of Roxy's spellbinding adventures. Filled with drama and suspense, it is an exciting story that will entertain everyone who enjoys mystery novels and protagonists with attitude.
