The Witches of East End (The Beauchamp Family Book 1) was written by author Melissa de la Cruz. This is her first adult book; previously she penned the bestselling series, Blue Bloods. Witches of East End is the story of Joanna Beauchamp and her two daughters, Freya and Ingrid. The three women live in North Hampton. They lead quiet lives, but secretly they are very powerful witches. Each has a different but strong power: Joanna can bring people back from the dead and heal people from their injuries, Ingrid can predict the future and help couples with their fertility problems, Freya can cure heartaches. Centuries ago all three women were forbidden to use their magic. All three women are finding it difficult to refrain from using their magic. They determine it is time to dust off their wands and broomsticks; however, dark forces are working against them.
Melissa de la Cruz is very good at characterization. It is impossible not to love these women. My favorite was Ingrid who has a kind heart and always wants to help others. Author Melissa de la Cruz carefully defined each woman by their personalities. The plot flows smoothly and at a quick pace. Witches of East End has more than a bit of mythology. This book has it all, paranormal, suspense, romance and mythology. Melissa de la Cruz knows how to introduce a new series and have readers begging for more. This book's audience is adult, but it is also appropriate for upper high school students. This is an entertaining read, one you will won’t want to miss.
