In Wishing Under a Highland Star: A Tale from the Order of the Dragon Knights, Mary Morgan has taken the myths, legends, and history of Ireland and Scotland and woven these into a delightful love story filled with angst, love, rejection, romance, and misunderstanding. The main characters in this tale are Alex MacFhearguis and his brother Patrick with his wife Gwen, Aine Fraser and her brother Keegan, Uncle Eamon, Gordon the Smithy, Cara, Rory Macgregor, Glenna the Healer, and Dragon Knight Angus Mackay. These wonderful characters are all interlinked with many minor characters in the telling of this story and all are important in one way or another. I found that each and every character, no matter how small, is vital to the telling of this tale.
Mary Morgan weaves a fantasy that holds the attention and imagination of the reader throughout the book. Once the reader starts reading, there is no way that the book can be put down until the last page and the wonderful ending is revealed in this unusual romance. The author has taken her knowledge of the Irish legends of fairies or fae along with the Scottish legends of dragons and used them well in creating this wonderful story. This light-hearted romance catches the reader's imagination from the first page to the last page and will have them smiling and even crying in places. I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely story of romance and unrequited love and found the ending to be most delightful. Thank you for a wonderful read that had me smiling throughout the day.
