Winston the Duck and His Big Orange Bill by Kristina Wolf Dreisbach is a cute little tale for children. The story is about Winston, a little duck that everyone makes fun of because his bill is bright orange. Winston does not let the teasing bother him because he knows he was made different by God for a reason.
I thought Winston the Duck and His Big Orange Bill had a very good message. The message is “God made you that way for a reason.” I really loved that Dreisbach gave Winston such a positive attitude. No matter what was said to him or how many animals laughed at him, he remained positive. That is something even adults have trouble with. I read this book with my four-year-old because she loves ducks. She too liked Winston and enjoyed the story as well as the illustrations. The illustrations are cute and are hand drawn. The setting of the story is at night, but at times the drawings appear a little too dark to see what is actually going on. I recommend if you read this story on a Kindle for it to be one that has color.
Overall, my child and I really enjoyed this book. This is the type of message that I wish my daughter could see more of in children’s stories. I think some adults can even be helped by the message in this book. I hope that Dreisbach writes more books with positive messages such as this one in the future.
