Winston, the tiger, and Henry, the bear, are looking for an adventure in Winston and Henry Do Art. Author Greta Von Szabo invites young readers to join the cuddly duo on their spectacular adventure. They decide to go see some art and ask their friend Mumbo, the bird, for a lift. Mumbo agrees and they decide to leave early so that they can reach home before dark. They arrive in Egypt and see Queen Nefertiti and Henry feels that up close she looks gorgeous. They go to ancient Greece next and Henry notices that Zeus is naked and he gives his hat to Zeus. They spot an abbey in England during the gloomy time of 1559. They fly into a dark room where a queen is being painted. They sit on her knee and get a cuddle. From there they go to Renaissance Italy and many other interesting places. Let us join Henry, Winston, and Mumbo on their travels, adventures, and ramblings, and have some fun.
This book is unique; the rhymes are lyrical and will captivate young readers with their enchantment. The illustrations are bright and colorful and I like the idea of having both color and black and white pages of illustrations. This makes it a good combination of education, information, history, and art – all together in one story. The author makes history interesting and encourages young readers to try their hand at art, making it a good storybook for fun and interactive sessions both at school and home. Books like this are entertaining for children as well as helping them develop an interest in art, history, and traveling.
