Wings of Fire by Stephanie Mirro tells the story of a young woman called Veronica who works as a thief, using her avian shape-shifting ability to aid her in getting away after a heist. Things go wrong on her latest job, when she fails to get the item she was hired to steal and someone dies. This isn't good news for Veronica since her boss is a dangerous vampire. Worried she will get the blame and go to grim reaper prison, she must figure out who the killer is and clear her name. She must also avoid the Death Enforcement Agent sent to bring her down. It will take everything she has to save herself and find the real killer.
Stephanie Mirro has written an entertaining story with Wings of Fire: The Last Phoenix. I enjoyed reading about another kind of shifter other than a wolf, which all books seem to have lately. Veronica is a great character who uses her ability to her advantage and tries to have fun in what she does. The story jumps straight into the action, with Veronica arriving at the party to steal the item, and it is pretty non-stop after that. The characters are well developed and likable, especially Veronica. She is capable and tough and is prepared to fight when she has to. From what I have read in book 1, I would definitely go on to read more books in the series. I know urban fantasy fans would love this book. I would definitely recommend it.
