Wine and Bullet by Sherrill E Hayes is part of the Bullet Series. Murder victims are turning up with alarming regularity at international airports all over the country. The victims are strangers, linked only by two things – they are all from other countries and autopsies show benzodiazepine in all of them. The police have nothing to go on and put it down to murders by prostitutes and, with no clues to follow, the cases gradually get pushed aside. A small-town cop, Boyd “Bullet” Wink has plenty of time on his hands and, while reading through open case files, he spots the link between the victims. Now, together with FBI Agent Michael Shannon, he must hunt down a brutal serial killer. But the clues don’t always add up and, for Shannon and Bullet, time is against them to find the killer before another victim turns up.
Wine and Bullet by Sherrill E Hayes is an entertaining read. It is part of a series and I have not read any of the other books. However, I found this one easy to get into with enough character development to let me get to know the main characters. Bullet is a likable character with many quirks and a few demons that he needs to shake off. The plot is different from your average “hunt for a serial killer” plot, with lots of twists and turns to keep you on your toes. There are action scenes and plenty to grab your attention and keep you turning the pages. Some of the twists, you won't see coming and you’ll be rooting for Shannon and Bullet all the way through. Be prepared for a suspense-filled, thrilling murder mystery that will have you on the edge of your seat, all the way through. A real page-turner, guaranteed thrills.
