Willabee: A Tale of Courage is a beautifully written book by author Bill Calhoun. Illustrator Boon T. Lai gives vivid illustrations that will quickly engage young readers as they fly around with Willabee in this adventurous story. Willabee sets out on a flight to explore and share his musical talent with the world. He is gifted with a natural singing ability and wants to share this gift with anyone that will listen. While on his journey, he was hurt and several ducks came to his rescue. He then gave them singing lessons and helped them to learn to sing as well as he could. They sounded so good that when one day the hunters came into the woods, they had to remain quiet for fear they would be shot. After the hunters left, the ducks and Willabee joined together in song once again. Since the ducks had learned how to sing and they were doing a beautiful job, Willabee knew he could leave them and they would be just fine. So he flew on to his next adventure, leaving the ducks to sing in perfect harmony.
Author Calhoun engages the reader and presents a wonderful book for parents to share with their children. This is also a great story book read for libraries. Anyone who enjoys singing, birds, or just a great adventure will truly enjoy reading this exciting book. Willabee is a fun loving creature that helps the reader to look at the bright side of life and enjoy their adventure.
