Joan Sloane’s Wiggle your Hips Wildebeest is a short story about two wildebeests named Waldo and Wilma. It is finally the end of the dry season. Waldo and Wilma thought it would be the perfect time to throw a party and celebrate it with their friends. However, during their celebration, a food fight suddenly breaks out after a guest flicks a small crumb of food at another guest. They find themselves in a messy situation with food scattered everywhere. Will Waldo and Wilma find a way to fix the party before the night ends? Come and join Waldo and Wilma as they try to make their party fun for everyone!
Wiggle your Hips Wildebeest by Joan Sloane is an amusing and delightful story, a perfect tale for parents to read to their children. The story is told in rhyme and is paired with colorful illustrations by Mary Beth Benton. The vivid pictures are definitely praiseworthy, bringing life to the characters and making the wonderfully written story visual. I couldn’t help but admire the art because it went so well with the words. The lively art and the witty rhymes were so good that I just had to read the entire thing again and again!
The simplicity of the story and the animal characters will surely be appealing to children and it will help stimulate and develop their imaginations. The story also effectively taught me a good lesson: despite finding yourself in a chaotic or messy situation, you can still turn things around as long as you remain positive. Whether it is something you choose to read for fun or for the sake of learning, Wiggle your Hips Wildebeest will definitely not disappoint. Overall, an outstanding short story. Great work!
