Wicked Crescent is a work of fiction penned by author Erica-Jane Battisson in the romantic fantasy, adventure, and interpersonal drama subgenres, and is the third novel in The Sefwarian Nyss Series. It is intended for the young adult reading audience. In this continuation of the riveting fantasy series, Kerenza faces a tumultuous homecoming armed with shocking revelations. As war looms, she discovers that the malevolent Worlega has stolen their Nyss magic, intensifying the impending conflict. The narrative takes an unexpected twist, plunging Kerenza into an impossible situation, testing her relationship with Xenor, and unveiling a myriad of secrets.
Author Erica-Jane Battisson has crafted a gorgeously penned tale of tragedy, passion, and intrigue, as Kerenza grapples with personal dilemmas and external forces conspiring against her. The story unfolds in a world filled with conflict, magic, and a heart-wrenching love triangle. I was impressed by the intricacy of the worldbuilding to not only bring it to life visually for readers but also show us how the culture and ideas of the world have shaped the attitudes of the characters, for better and for worse. The novel is well-paced with some really exciting fantasy scenes and slower, more developmental moments to breathe through the characters’ emotions. It explores themes of control, fate, and the choices that define our destinies gently in the background, letting the action take center stage. For readers who enjoy ‘romantasy’ adventures with a blend of magic and supernatural elements, the plot balance is perfectly struck for everything you need. Overall, Wicked Crescent is a compelling addition to the series, and I would highly recommend it for fantasy fans everywhere as an immersive and engaging read.
