In Why Is This Cat Crazy? by Lizy J Campbell, we are introduced to a woman who sees an ad online about a kitten for sale. After much thought, she decides that she would love to have a pet and everyone around her agrees that she wouldn’t regret it. She soon realized that having another cat wasn’t going to be as simple as she had thought. Her new cat loved jumping off the walls, hanging on with her claws, and doing zoomies through her house. The other cat she had didn’t behave like this, so it was a bit of a shock to see her new cat acting so crazy. The new kitten got into so much trouble that her new owner was exhausted trying to keep the cat from destroying her house. Still, at the end of the day, she wouldn’t have it any other way.
I think that Lizy J Campbell has done a wonderful job with Why Is This Cat Crazy? Most people think of felines as being laid back and lazy, but that isn’t always the case. Like humans, animals have their personalities and the woman in this story should have anticipated that, even though she already had a cat that was the stereotypical feline that most people imagine. Kittens also have a lot of energy and this kitten's wild behavior showed that. What I liked about this book was that, in the end, the woman accepts the kitten as she is and loves her regardless. Sadly enough, many cats get dropped off at the shelter because the owner can’t or doesn’t want to deal with the feline's personality traits. This is a great book to show kids that animals act in many ways just like they do. I also really loved the illustrations as they fit perfectly with the storyline. It’s a book I’d recommend to any young reader who wants a pet.
