Author Poppy Smith has written a highly-readable work on marriage through a Christian perspective. Her chapters are totally readable and useful as she takes on the realities of marriage. On page 16, she inserts one of her own down-to-earth italicized quotes "We expect to marry our clone, someone who is reasonably like us" and then gives the reader practical advice on how to deal with a mate who is nowhere even close to what the reader expected. Each of the book's three sections help the reader accept the marriage they have, show the reader how to deal with one's mate's uniqueness and how to proceed with accepting that difference. Each chapter ends with a well-written prayer by the author based upon Scriptural texts. Author Smith has comprised quizzes and questions for the reader to answer throughout the book and she honestly tells of her marriage to her husband and the challenges they have faced.
"Why Can't He Be More Like Me?" is a valuable addition to the many books that deal with marriage and its problems. It is practical, useful, well-written, enlightened, not preachy and very down to earth. Readers with great marriages or horrible marriages or somewhere in between will love "Why Can't He Be More Like Me?" and will want copies for themselves, family and friends. Author Poppy Smith has written a book that will make the reader laugh, cry, and want to answer all its questions and queries. "Why Can't He Be More Like Me?" will answer readers deep and unasked questions about their relationships. This is a book that should be on reading lists everywhere.
