With Whiskey for Breakfast, Dominic Stabile provides a page turning mystery that kept me guessing as to who the real killers might be. What should have been an easy job for retired cop turned P.I. Nick Dioli is actually anything but! When a local judge hires him to bring his thirteen-year-old runaway daughter Chelsea home, it should have been a piece of cake, after all the judge even gives him the address where he can find her. The last thing Nick plans on finding is a pistol packing, cupcake baking grandmother who isn't about to let Nick take Chelsea anywhere. Instead, he learns that Chelsea might have witnessed a murder and that her life is in danger. Nick decides to get to the bottom of the mystery, but with several people involved in the case being murdered, he finds himself a target as well. Can he figure out what is going on before he becomes the next victim?

Whiskey for Breakfast provides a fast paced plot that grabbed me from the beginning and didn't turn me loose until the final page. Dominic Stabile provides an interesting cast of multi-layered characters blended together with a well written mystery to make for a suspense filled saga that certainly kept me guessing. Crisp, descriptive writing allowed me to visualise the various settings of the story. While the author provides more than a few clues as to who the perps might actually be, I really never suspected who the actual killers were until the author revealed it - which is something that rarely happens. More than a few secondary characters kept the plot moving along, but it was the character of Nick Dioli who intrigued me the most. I couldn't help but wonder what sort of cop he might have been. Even though he has a drinking problem, he doesn't let that get in the way of solving a case. We learn that his wife is dead, but the shocking statement he made in the final sentences of the epilogue certainly grabbed my attention and left me anxious to read the next installment of this series.
