Where Is He? Seeking and Finding Jesus by Gayle Kelly, with illustrations by Adrianna Kamosa, offers young readers a new and unique angle in a story which one might think it impossible to view with a fresh perspective. This is, after all, the story of Jesus Christ--his birth, his life, his death, and his resurrection. In each part, Kelly asks her characters (generally in search of Jesus), "Where is He?" Following this, an answer is provided to both character and reader in the context of its biblical story, the text itself encompassed by Kamosa's depictions of the scenes in colorful pencil drawings. Together, the story and artwork provide a generous and comfortable account of arguably the most famous individual to have walked the earth.
I think this book would make for an accessible and entertaining read for Christian children, while still being interesting for the adult helping their child through it. Where Is He? Seeking and Finding Jesus by Gayle Kelly is witty and engaging without sacrifice to (or variance from) the overall story. This isn't a reinvention of the wheel here, but any time an author is able to revitalize a tale that has been told millions of times before, over many years, and still find a way to make it feel original, there's no question this account ticks all of the boxes required to make it a five-star read. Highly recommended for parents and teachers who are looking for a fun and thoughtful read for their young Christians.
