Randy W. Kirk’s When Friday Isn’t Payday: How to Plan Start Build and Manage Your Small Business, 3rd Edition is very complete in taking the entrepreneur from the beginning of developing a business through the many facets of entrepreneurship. In many ways, it presents a complete checklist of the areas an entrepreneur can encounter in setting up a business. Mr. Kirk illustrates his points with real life examples, often from his own experience, and effectively brings us into the real world of entrepreneurship. There is much excellent information contained in the book and it provides valuable knowledge to those interested in becoming or expanding their role as an entrepreneur.
The book covers a great deal of information and is for the most part successful in accomplishing its goal of educating the business person wanting to set up and manage his/her own business. Throughout the book, there is very practical information on business planning, marketing, and managing a startup business. For the advanced entrepreneur, there is an excellent section on financial issues which should be looked at carefully to monitor the progress of the company. Issues such as management, personnel management, leadership, and the decision to grow are introduced with some worthwhile strategies on selecting and managing your workforce. There is a good listing of references for readers to expand their knowledge beyond this book. When Friday Isn’t Payday definitely is a solid book for both beginning and experienced entrepreneurs, offering relevant and valuable information as well as checklists to start and grow your business. Highly recommended!
