What's Going on With My Family? (A Roadmap to Healing Trauma, Unlocking Your Hidden Power, and Remembering What Is Sacred) by Kelly Bohnhoff is a nonfiction book on relationships. It would appeal most to a mixed audience of young adults and adults looking to begin their journey of self-discovery and healing. The world is filled with relationships, truths, and lies that can alter one’s perception of oneself. This book provides a guide to understanding and reclaiming one’s true self. Are you ready to learn who you are as an individual, how to heal your past trauma, and how to end the cycle of family trauma?
What's Going on With My Family? by Kelly Bohnhoff is a well-written book with an intriguing cover that grabbed my professional interest as a psychology graduate the moment I saw it. I found the author extremely knowledgeable on both trauma and healing trauma—her approach is innovative and effective. I liked how she focused on more positive emotions like compassion, forgiveness, and courage as this made the book feel uplifting rather than depressing. The author did not just focus on the most well-known traumas like abuse and neglect, but on a wide variety of traumas including chronic pain, incarceration, and even pandemic-based isolation. I found the inclusion of the trauma from pandemic isolation to be extremely helpful in that, before reading this book, I had not truly considered the fact that it was a trauma. Overall, I enjoyed learning from Dr. Bohnhoff's book, and I plan to integrate her teachings into my own life.
