“I want you, the reader, to understand this was a dream. It does not in any way convey any beliefs I have. And yes, it was Robin Williams in my dream. I am not saying he actually came to me with all this information. If only it were true…” I picked up What Dreams May Bring by Tracy Lane-Hembley for two reasons; I’m a fan of the late Robin Williams and I was highly intrigued by its premise. The story starts on August 12, 2014, at the Saint Peter’s Courthouse, Division of Souls, in a place away from the land of the living; Heaven. Linkyn Aberford is a tough defense attorney who always fights hard for her clients’ souls, and is well respected by the judges and her fellow colleagues. Her skills will be tested though, with the arrival of Robin Williams as her client.
Even though this story focuses on the journey of one man and the judgment process of his soul, there are important facts and subject matters that will linger in readers’ minds regarding mental health. On the other hand, the most absorbing part of What Dreams May Bring for me is where Robin travels alone to Saint Peter’s gate. His thoughts, the scenery, his walk - everything about the journey is beautiful and tranquil. On the whole, views on suicide will always be controversial for everyone. Nevertheless, the late Mr. Williams gave enough laughter and happiness to other people during his lifetime, and his legacy through his work will always be remembered. If I'm to imagine the outcome of his judgment, it would be just how it's described in this thought-provoking and poignant book from Tracy Lane-Hembley.
