What Do Monsters Get for Christmas? by Blake L. Marsee is a picture book that begs the title question — what do monsters get for Christmas? Each page has a different monster and poses that very question. And each time the author tells us what he thinks each monster should get. From Frankenstein’s monster to Dracula and ghosts, from witches and spiders to wizards and dragons, to each is recommended the perfect gift. From a mirror for The Invisible Man to a hot cup of coffee for The Abominable Snowman, each gift is a perfect delight. But The Wolfman? Well, we are not so sure what he should get. Blake assures us that when he finds The Wolfman, he will ask. A brush, maybe?
This is a delightful story that presents monsters in a friendlier way. I read it to my toddlers and preschoolers and they were excited to see the monsters get lots of gifts and even suggested a few of their own. What Do Monsters Get for Christmas? is the perfect book with which to read and interact with the little guys (and girls). The illustrations were super cute and the words short and to the point, which kept their attention all the way through. I would recommend this picture book by Blake L. Marsee as a fun story time book or even an early reader story for starting readers. And to top it all off, the book had a special message at the end. Every monster celebrates Christmas. As all who love Jesus Christ should do.
