Wehr Wolff Castle by B Bentley Summers is a terrific read and a great entry in the Wehr Wolff Chronicles, set against a powerful historical background with the rise of Nazi Germany. Hagen Messer is an American soldier who specializes in tracking, working with the Air Force while linked to the British commandos. When tasked with tracking a captive and destroying a dam, he thinks it is going to be an easy job. But everything changes when his plane crashes and he tracks the captive to a place he least expected in the Wehr forest. He and his team locate a German lab in a castle where deadly experiments are taking place, producing the vilest of creatures. Now begins a tale of adventure in which Hagen will confront his own darkness as he tries to destroy the experimental labs and protect his friends. Can they make it out without being killed?
The story is beautifully told and the author builds on one of the nefarious aspects of Nazism while exploring a tale of adventure and love. The characters are well imagined and created to feel as real as they can possibly be. Hagen is a great character, a 3-dimensional character with unusual skills, but his development in the story and how the layers of his personality come out is awesome. I enjoyed B Bentley Summers’s prose and the author’s ability to create vivid images of the setting and absorbing scenes. This is an ingeniously plotted story that takes readers into the psychology of the Nazis and explores a historical period where a menacing evil threatened humanity. Wehr Wolff Castle is a great read, engrossing and gripping.
