V.L. Brunskill has been a professional writer for twenty years. She ditched journalism class after landing her very first interview with the late, great, punk icon Joey Ramone. As a national music journalist, V.L. has written for publications such as Metronome magazine, CREEM, The Boston Globe, and Boston Phoenix.
From hundreds of rock star interviews to rocking ions, V.L. went on to become a technical writer in the semiconductor and IT fields. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on Christmas Eve, and adopted after seven months, V.L. was reborn in 1991, when she was reunited with her biological parents. She moved south to be closer to both.

What a great book I just finished! That's what I thought when I finished Waving Backwards, the new novel by author V.L. Brunskill. Follow our protagonist, Lara Bonavito, as she goes on a search for her biological roots. Lara had been adopted into a abusive home and, after enduring a life that no child should, she's finally able to leave and find her beginnings. Armed with only a mysterious clue, that "The baby's roots are with the Southern woman who waves forever," Lara finds herself in the quintessential Southern city of Savannah, Georgia, staring at a statue that has her face. Meeting new and interesting friends along the way, Lara discovers that finding her way may have more to do with her past than she could have imagined.
I so enjoyed Waving Backwards. Full disclosure, I was adopted myself, and I also worked as an adoption social worker for many years so the theme of the story is very close to my heart. While my experience of adoption was very different from Lara's, I can certainly empathize with her need to find where she came from, and to find love. Author V.L. Brunskill has done a wonderful job in creating characters that her readers will absolutely connect with and will continue thinking about long after the story is over. Any reader who enjoys stories about family, redemption, or just a wonderful read will love Waving Backwards. I am so pleased to recommend this book, and will certainly be keeping my eye out for the next work by the very talented V.L. Brunskill. If it's anything like Waving Backwards, it will absolutely be worth reading!
